Faculty Development Programme-2020: Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality

Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a Scientific Society of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, is primarily an R&D institution involved in design, development and deployment of Advanced Electronics and Information Technology Solutions, including the celebrated PARAM series of Supercomputers. C-DAC, Mohali’s areas of expertise range from R&D work in foundation of technologies to product development. IP generation and technology transfer, deployment of solutions in various sectors directly or through partnership models. Computing Language & Speech Process, Computer Science & Software including Embedded Systems and VLSI Design. C-DAC Mohali is also offering PhD in Electronics and Information Technology, post graduate degree in the advanced areas like VLSI Design, Embedded Systems, Electronics Product Design & Summer and Industrial Training in the latest technologies domains.

C-DAC, Mohali's ACSD (Academic & Consultancy Services Division) provides high-end training in the fields of hardware and software and runs M.Tech programs viz., Electronics Product Design & Technology (EPDT), Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) Design, Embedded Systems (ES), along with its Research and Development activities in various fields. Intellectual alertness, creativity and talent for innovation go into the making of an engineering leader today and continue to be essential for professional competence tomorrow

The Institute is located at Mohali and connected by road with Ludhiana (100 km), Ropar (30 km), Patiala (80 km), and Chandigarh (10 km). The nearest railway stations are the Mohali Railway Station as well as the Chandigarh Railway station (16 Km). The nearest airport is the Chandigarh International Airport (14 km).
The month of October/November is spring season and temperature ranges from 20 C to 27 C.

This course is aimed to provide a platform where researchers can discuss following issues with the experts:

Augmented and Virtual Reality is a rapidly evolving field, ready to take on the world in unimaginable ways. It is bound to create an all-pervasive and highly immersive experience, spreading it tentacles in all possible domains, in all possible ways – be it teaching, learning, driving, flying an aircraft, touristic activities, maintenance of machines, or in any field. AR/VR enhance the real-world environment where the objects residing in the real world are augmented by computer-generated perceptual information and where a make-belief world is created when none exists in physical form, depending upon its requirement and purpose.

Broad topics that will be covered in the course are:

  • What is Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality
  • Real Time applications of AR/VR in different industries
  • Understanding the challenges in AR/VR
  • Working with Unity software and Vuforia
  • About development environment in AR/VR
  • Building Mobile Application
  • Understanding the HMDs (Head Mounted Display)

Applicants can fill the application form available in the links below. Filled-in form, with approval from the Head of the Institution is to be emailed at balwinder[at]cdac[dot]in, mentioning the subject as “Application for Faculty Development Program on Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality”
